100% Of Our Energy From Solar Power? That Day Is Approaching!

100% Of Our Energy From Solar Power? That Day Is Approaching!

While the future of our environment, national safety and political discourse is in disarray, there is at least some good news to celebrate overseas. The results of the UK snap election that Theresa May hoped would shore up support for her Conservative party backfired when they actually lost seats in Parliament. And in Germany, citizens are getting 85 percent of their electricity from renewables like wind and solar power, a feat our nation has yet to accomplish when our current Commander-in-Chief thinks the the only thing that should be solar powered is the surface of his skin. Lee Camp covers the good news abroad and more in the latest Redacted Tonight.

  1. Maybe 100% during the day when the sun is out, but how do you get power at night from solar? Reminds me of the solar powered flashlight (light hitting the PV cells makes the flashlight give off light–so it obviously doesn't work in darkness).

  2. Not again, more hype on Germany's smoke belching, filthy lignite fueled electricity generation. Germany's hyped up Solar only reached 6.2% of their electricity supply in 2014. And now is in rapid decline, after cutting back on the massive subsidies. 7.6 GW in 2012, 3.3 in 2013, 1.9 in 2014, that's peak. Avg 0.18 GW in 2014 installed vs their avg electricity generation of 72.3GW. And most of what they installed will have to be replaced in the next 15 yrs. What a joke. They export the highly peaking solar for a penny a kwh or less, often paying upwards of 10 cents per kwh for other countries to take the solar generated when demand is low and yet Germany pays up to 40 cents a kwh to generate it.

So past two year Germany's CO2 emissions have INCREASED, and they have the highest emissions in Europe per kwh generated and the highest electricity prices. France's (78% nuclear, 12% hydro) emissions is 7X lower than Germany per kwh and they have half the electricity cost. Germany is a dismal failure in climate change mitigation.

Ontario is 62% clean, green nuclear electricity, along with conventional hydro, Ontario is 84% clean electricity supply. Germany, has six times the emissions per kwh generated as Ontario, and going nowhere fast with the total collapse of their solar industry. So much for renewable energy.

Funny you never hear any kudos for France or Ontario though. Why? Because Big Oil promotes wind & solar as the centerpiece of their bait-and-switch scam to misdirect any effort towards nuclear which ACTUALLY can & does replace oil, gas & coal, and in fact, unlike wind & solar has no need for fossil, which is why Big Oil, loves wind & solar and has a rabid hatred of nuclear power.

  3. "And in Germany, citizens are getting 85 percent of their electricity" What percent of baseload electricity in Germany is used for residential? For comparison in the us that is 20%, you could say we produce enough clean energy for 100% of US citizens just off nuclear alone roughly.

Coal use is not being replaced in Germany, nuclear is- and the US has better air quality than Germany.

  4. What humans & livestock have done so far:

99% of Rhinos gone since 1914.

97% of Tigers gone since 1914.

90% of Lions gone since 1993.

90% of Sea Turtles gone since 1980.

90% of Monarch Butterflies gone since 1995.

90% of Big Ocean Fish gone since 1950.

80% of Antarctic Krill gone since 1975.

80% of Western Gorillas gone since 1955.

60% of Forest Elephants gone since 1970.

50% of Great Barrier Reef gone since 1985.

40% of Giraffes gone since 2000.

30% of Marine Birds gone since 1995.

70% of Marine Birds gone since 1950.

28% of Land Animals gone since 1970.

28% of All Marine Animals gone since 1970.

    97% – Humans & Livestock are 97% of land-air vertebrate biomass.

10,000 years ago we were 0.01% of land-air vertebrate biomass.

We will run out of soil and water before we reach 100% renewable energy.

  5. I would think that, with today's tech[nology], there would be, at least, private parties, be them individuals or collectives, would replicate Tesla's work. I'd think that somebody out there might even be able to improve it, or make some type of workable variation. If I am not mistaken, he did create a machine that drew electrical charges from "empty space" and transferred them to devices, as a power source, without any wires: that is really what happened, right? I mean, come on, we have 3D printers now: not even as a tribute, or even a novelty. Or is the whole Tesla narrative a grand hoax; his work, as valuable as the torah?
