2017 Nissan Rogue Hybrid Car Review

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid finally has some competition! Nissan’s Rogue Hybrid crossover offers the form factor that buyers want along with good fuel economy. Gas might be inexpensive right now but efficiency is always in fashion.Tom Voelk reviews the top line SL AWD model.

The Hybrid is based on the refreshed Nissan Rogue which is especially noticeable inside. Materials have been upgraded, details added, and the steering wheel gets a flat bottom. This loaded SL model gets a Bose sound system that could be punchier. Nissan’s user interface is pretty simple but it’s also rudimentary. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not offered… yet.

  1. Having driven the standard gas Rogue with the cvt, I can't imagine why anyone would want it.  Even as a rental car, the drone of that engine when you put your foot in it is possibly the most annoying thing I've ever heard.  The second most annoying thing is how little the engine responds when you put your foot down.   But I notice you seem to like every vehicle you drive.

  2. Tom, in case you want to see Ford adding a hybrid to their two turbocharged inline-4 powertrains, I suggest you talk to Mark Fields, the CEO. And I'm with you, if the hybrid is successful with the Fusion, why not the Escape. I'll sign up for your petition.

  3. "It is hard for crossovers to stand from each other since they all start from a two-box design" – an absolutely pointless remark which I did not expect from you. So, a sedan starts from three boxes. A locomotive is one box. What about, I don't know, rockets. They all start with a cylindrical fuel tank and a rocket engine at the tail. If you simply shoot from angles you think are interesting, intelligent viewers will appreciate your efforts. Image is worth a thousand words. P.S. I see how those "boxes" loaded in the beginning played out later in your review, still, not impressed with the opener.

  4. Tell em Tom! The pessimist in me says that Ford isn't making much money on that cabbie in SF who's got such a reliable Ford Escape hybrid and it's sad but so many manufacturers don't want to invest in the new tech until they are forced to.. Nice review man! I'm assuming you've got the Toyota Rav4 Hybrid coming up next?!

  5. Hi Tom. I've watched every single one of your car reviews. Can you please review the Acura TLX? I am considering buying one fairly soon but don't want to jump on it without your input. Thanks!

  6. A friend had an Escape hybird. He finally traded it in at a bit over 200K miles. He kept waiting for something to break on it. It never did – just routine maintenance.

  7. I don't like the cargo space arrangement. Toyota's RAV 4 hybrid did much better, it's flat, larger, and even comes with a spare tire, impressive.
