Amazon Deforestation: Timelapse

Explore a global timelapse of our planet, constructed from Landsat satellite imagery. The Amazon rainforest is shrinking at a rapid rate to provide land for farming and raising cattle. Each frame of the timelapse map is constructed from a year of Landsat satellite data, constituting an annual 1.7-terapixel snapshot of the Earth at 30-meter resolution. The Landsat program, managed by the USGS, has been acquiring images of the Earth’s surface since 1972. Landsat provides critical scientific information about our changing planet.

  1. Of all the filthy legacies globalist capitalism will leave behind – and there are many – the destruction of the rainforests may prove to be the worst, the most damaging and the injury ultimately will be felt by our own species. We may continue to exist for millions of years but we will live with only a fraction of the beauty our world once had, every one of millions of generations will live in considerable planetary poverty as a result of this era of gorging.

I say bomb the fuckers from the air, treat them as terror training camps. Do it internationally if the corrupt Brazilians/Indonesians etc won't comply. Of course that would never happen because Western Govts are complicit in the scheme of things.

  2. Samuel L. Jackson may have played the villain in "Kingsmen: Secret Service" but his character saw his 'evil plan' as a way to save the world. And he may have been right. It's just as Richmond Valentine said, "we're making our planet sick". Sure that plan involved mass genocide of the human population, but it could drastically reduce consumption of natural resources and, by extension, the need for deforestation. However, in my opinion, the growing population is not the only thing that must be taken into consideration, but our resources as well. We need a new source of energy. Perhaps several years later, that science fiction idea of a source of unlimited self-sustaining clean energy will become a reality, and when it does, it should not belong to one community, but it should be shared will all of mankind.

  3. Hey, uploaded a video against deforestation, cause I care about and I think everyone can do something against it.
Would be super glad if you give me some review!

Eles inventaram o capitalismo feroz e destrutivo do mundo hoje!

  6. So people should just starve so the rest of us can say we have an Amazon rain forest? A pristine and untouched planet would be lovely, but people breed: they need to eat, grow food, irrigate their crops, mine coal to stay warm and otherwise utilize the natural resources that Earth provides. While it is currently popular to blame the US for all the evils perpetrated upon the Universe, it looks to me like some efforts to reduce overpopulation elsewhere might have more of an impact that current apologist approach taken by Americans.

  7. Close to 80% of the deforrestaion of the Amazon rainforest has been due to cattle farming, mainly for meat and leather that are exported to countries all over the world. A lot of the rest has been for soy production, almost entirely used to feed livestock. If you find what you saw in this video awful, a good way to dramastically lower your part in this shame to humanity is to give up meat.
