CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A cartoon demonstration of the effects of greenhouse gases on earth.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Former vice president Al Gore shares his concerns on the pressing issue of global warming in this documentary. A long-time environmental activist, Gore first became aware of evidence on global warming in the 1970s, and since leaving public office he has become a passionate advocate for large- and small-scale changes in our laws and lifestyles that could help alleviate this crisis. An Inconvenient Truth records a multi-media presentation hosted by Gore in which he discusses the scientific facts behind global warming, explains how it has already begun to affect our environment, talks about the disastrous consequences if the world’s governments and citizens do not act, and shares what each individual can do to help protect the Earth for this and future generations. An Inconvenient Truth was directed by Davis Guggenheim, a veteran documentary filmmaker who also has an extensive background in episodic television.

  1. The Exxon Valdez disaster spilled about 11 million gallons of oil into Alaska's Prince William Sound 27 years ago.
The environmentalists were outraged about that for decades.

In the BP Oil Spill, more than 200 million gallons of crude oil were pumped into the Gulf of Mexico for a total of 87 days, making it the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. Yet, the environmentalists were nearly silent on this issue. It happened in 2010, and yet, by the lack of coverage and the lack of outrage, you would think it happened 1,000 years ago.

March 11, 2011, regarding the Japan nuclear leak, PBS writes, "This event is unprecedented in its total release of radioactive contamination into the ocean." More than 80 percent of the radioactivity from the damaged reactors ended up in the Pacific — far more than reached the ocean from Chernobyl or Three Mile Island. In March 2016, PBS wrote, "5 years later, Fukushima radiation CONTINUES to seep into the Pacific Ocean." Where's the outrage? Where's the concern? Has sea life and our food source been contaminated? Is anyone testing? What's the damage? Why are we left in the dark?

How many nations are guilty of doing nothing to protect their environment? 20% 50% 75%? 95%. While we should do all that's possible, wouldn't it make more sense to help other nations lessen their emissions, protect their water supply and shared oceans? Wouldn't that be more effective in protecting the entire planet? Why not stop trading with nations that refuse to get that in order?
