Bees Are Now An Endangered Species

The government has placed bees on the endangered species list. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. https://www.tytnetwork.com/join

β€œThe bees are dying.

For the first time in the United States, bees have been placed on the endangered-species list. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Friday determined that seven species of yellow-faced bees, all native to Hawaii, should be protected under the Endangered Species Act.

All seven species belong to the Hylaeus genus of bees. Together, the wasp-looking bees are more commonly known as “yellow-faced” or “masked” for their yellow-to-white facial markings.

These species are responsible for pollinating some of Hawaii’s indigenous plant species, many of which are threatened themselves.

Karl Magnacca, a Hawaii-based entomologist, told the Associated Press that efforts to have the bees federally protected took nearly a decade.

“It’s good to see it finally come to fruition,” he told the AP, adding that yell0w-faced bees tend to favor the more dominant trees and shrubs in Hawaii, which helps “maintain the structure of the whole forest.”

  1. Besides pesticides, Most honey bees are being factory farmed now & these factory farms are also one of the biggest killers of bees, if you do a little deeper research into this, you'll realise the truth about factory farmed bees & not letting them keep any honey to survive in winter, which ethical bee farms leave them in order for them to survive. they kill the queen & hand select a queen, going aginst nature. they then smoke out the entire colony to kill them all when they've taken all the honey at the end of summer. it's exceptionally cruel & means less bees pollinating our plants. no bees, no plants. no plants, no humans.

Another thing which bothers me is why the British Government introduced a new genetically engineered species into the UK in the late 90's which They call the Hoverfly. They told us on the news that They look like bees but don't sting & are designed to also pollinate plants & eat Aphids so therefore protect our plants. I have no idea why they did this but noticed a rapid decline in our bee population shortly afterwards. I see many Hoverflies in Summer but rarely ever see Bees anymore. It was claimed on the news that the Government introduced them primarily to protect our crops but I wonder if the decline in our bee population here is caused by the introduction of these new man made insects & if the hoverflies could even be taking the Bees nectar supplies or something else or even if they've been introduced for another hidden reason

  2. not a specific type of being dumbasses the bees that carry our very existence 7 different types of bees… every plant is GMO and pollinates itself or is just chemical and bee's got nothing to do and they don't like GMOs so we're doing it to ourselves

  3. Commercial bees brought in to make humans honey are crowding out and causing extinction with native bees and wasps. GOVEGAN!

  4. Invasive species are not "natural", you stupid ass. Invasive species are transplanted around the world by humans…

  6. This is why there is only one thing left to do , vote #Jill2016

Environment/Ecology is the first of the international Green Party's 4 pillars.

Colony collapse can be attributed to the following:
    1. Pesticides
    2. Destruction of habitat due to development
    3. Seasonal temperature fluctuations exacerbated by climate change – bees' anatomy is highly sensitive to temperature
    4. Shifting of biomes due to climate change leading to the invasion of more aggressive non-native bees, wasps, and other pests that are detrimental to bee population
    5. Destruction of ecosystems on which bees depend that are not part of their understood "habitat" as Paul Stamets points out very recently, bees may rely on mycelium growing on rotting wood found in old-growth forests to gain auxiliary nutrients or boost their immune systems.
