Turning carbon dioxide into stone

A group of scientists in Iceland are injecting carbon dioxide and water into basalt though a process called the “CarbFix Process.” The scientists behind the project say this method of carbon capture could help with reducing the effects of CO2 emissions.

  3. What about the process itself? How much power and energy is consumed in injecting the CO2 into the rock? Are fossil fuels burned to produce that energy? Because if so, the whole concept is redundant, inadvertently producing CO2 to hide away CO2.
