Using A Residential Wind Energy System

Using a wind energy system may seem like a novel idea and a great way to contribute to a green way of living. It might even save you money you might think. However a wind energy system is not suitable for everyone. In most cases it is not a good idea to use a wind energy system for residential purposes. It usually more expensive and impractical to use a wind energy system in an urban setting.
Residential Wind Turbines
When employing a wind energy system to supply electricity a home will most likely rely on wind turbines and the utility company. When wind speeds are low the wind energy system will not generate enough electricity and electricity will be supplied by the utility company.
The higher the wind speeds the more electricity will be generated by the wind turbine energy generators. Sometimes the wind turbines will generate more electricity than the house needs, in such a case the excess electricity is sold to the utility company. This is done automatically.
Is My Home Suitable?
In an urban setting using a wind energy system is not suitable as there is usually not enough land. The best kind of home will have at least an acre of land around it. The wind conditions around your home will also influence whether a wind energy system will benefit you. Winds need to be higher than 10 mph for there to be significant output from the wind turbines.
If your home is suitable for a wind energy system then you can expect to see lower electricity bills. You can reduce your home energy bill by as much as 90% if your area has the right wind conditions. Although this does mean you can expect to see a lower electricity bill, you will have had to pay for a wind turbine first.
How Does It Help?
Although you will have to pay for the initial cost of the wind turbine it will be paid back in subsequent years with lower electricity bills. A wind turbine will also last you for 20 to 30 years. You can also make your contribution to the environment by using this clean energy source.
Not only will you be generating clean energy but you will also be offsetting pollutants that your utility company releases. If you live in a suitable area then using a wind energy system might not only benefit the environment but can also save you money in the long term.

The Advantages Of Wind Energy

Wind energy is being pitched, increasingly, as the perfect way to solve an imminent energy crisis. It is seen as a totally clean way to supply electricity to homes and an affordable way to do it. So are the advantages of wind energy everything that is claimed and what about the disadvantages of wind energy. Another question that needs to be addressed is if the advantages of wind energy outweigh the disadvantages.
Great Energy
Creating sustainable energy has long been a challenge when the answer has been sitting in front of us for centuries. Wind power has been used by humans for many centuries in agriculture, in Babylon, China, and if you think of windmills you will understand that wind power is not a new technology.
One of the advantages of wind energy is that it is a renewable source. In an area that receives high levels of wind this is the perfect energy source. It can never run out and best of all, and perhaps high on the list of the advantages of wind energy, is that it is a totally free source of energy. There is no need to pay a foreign country for it or to pay more for it when it becomes scarce.
Another one of the great advantages of wind energy is that it does not pollute at all. It is one of the rare ways to generate electricity that does not give out greenhouse gases or destroy the environment. Any energy used in the installation can be gained once the wind turbines are in use in a period of three to six months.
A wind energy system is also a low cost way to provide electricity. It could soon be the cheapest way to generate electricity. The main cost of generating electricity in this way lies in the installation of wind turbines. Though the cost may rise if the land that the wind turbines are built on is expensive.
The Disadvantages
While there are many advantages of wind energy there are disadvantages associated with using wind energy. One of the disadvantages of wind energy is that although it does not pollute it does cause noise disturbances.
Though this is negated by the fact that not many wind farms are built near residential areas and newer models of wind turbines are usually designed in such a way that noise disturbances are decreased significantly. Wind energy is also not transmittable, the area that it supplies energy to must be nearby.

The Whole Cost Of Wind Energy

The cost of wind energy is one of the things that is also one of the advantages of wind energy. It is after all fuelled for free. It was once a very expensive energy source as the cost of using wind energy was increased by expensive wind turbines. A lot of the cost of wind energy was also shrouded in myth.
The true cost of wind energy reveals that it is a cost effective way to provide electricity. Many of the costs are paid once and then it does not need anymore financial input. From this point of view it is an economical way to supply electricity especially in remote areas and in a time of rising oil and gas prices.
Capital Costs
The capital cost of wind energy are the main costs and once they are paid off there are no more costs. Most of the money that goes into setting up a wind farm is focused on the wind turbines. The cost of wind energy has come down in recent years, this is good because more turbines can be put up for less money thus generating more electricity.
The rest of the costs associated with a wind farm have to do with the installation process. Roads, cables, and legal fees are all other costs associated with wind energy. The cost of building a wind farm varies depending on the geography of the area and other factors that are site specific. The number of wind turbines also determines the cost of wind energy. Though in general terms a larger wind farm is cheaper than a small one.
Maintenance
Maintaining a site can also be expensive. Though if you compare it with other kinds of energy generators there are lower maintenance costs when it comes to wind energy. Wind energy also needs less supervision than for example a nuclear power plant.
This means that it is a cheaper form of energy. The low cost of wind energy is associated with wind farms as servicing and maintaining a single wind turbine is more expensive than maintaining several in one site.
The cost of wind energy has come down enough that you are likely to pay as much for your electricity as you would for conventionally generated electricity. This means that is now a very affordable source of energy.
Though this is not always true and costs of wind energy can be expensive depending on the area and factors such as proximity to wind farms and who is supplying the electricity.

Reasons To Harness Wind Power Energy

The reasons to harness wind power energy seem to be completely environmental. However there is more to wind power energy than merely cutting down on pollution. There are unforeseen political benefits as well. There are plenty of reasons to go green with wind power energy. The cost of wind energy is also an attractive reason for using this natural source of energy.
In fact many people forget that the concept of using wind turbines is not a new one. Windmills have been around for a long time and people have benefited from using wind energy for many years before it became an eco friendly way to generate electricity.
Suitable Areas
Not all areas and locales are suitable for harnessing wind power energy. To have a successful wind farm as areas with wind turbines are called, a steady and reliable source of wind is needed. Not all areas benefit from windy conditions. For this reason a wind farm is best built in a coastal area, on rounded hills, in mountainous areas, and open plains.
The concept of wind power energy is very simple and the way it works is even more simple. The wind turbines usually have propellers that are turned by heated air that blows in the area. The action of the turning propellers generated electricity in a generator. It is a similar concept to a dynamo but on a much larger scale.
Excellent Energy
The areas around a wind farm does not have to go to waste. The earth can still be used for farming so farmland does not have to be abandoned to build a wind farm. It is also a completely green energy that does not give out greenhouse gases. Wind power energy is also a very cost effective way to supply electricity especially as it does not rely any fuel at all.
It is the perfect way to supply energy to remote areas that might not have easy access to a power grid. In fact many farms already have their own mini wind farms to provide electricity. There are downsides to using wind power energy, as there are to using any kind of energy source.
Nearby homes can often suffer from disrupted television service. If you happen to live near a wind farm built with older wind turbines then there is a chance that it will be very noisy. Newer wind turbines however have minimized this problem. The advantages of using wind power energy seem to outnumber the downsides.

Why Use Wind Energy?

Wind energy has always been listed as a renewable energy source. For a long time wind power energy has never been thought of as a practical solution to the energy crisis. It seems to expensive an implausible to be used in day to day life in an urban or suburban setting.
The costs it seems are too high and although it is a very green energy it doesn't seem viable. Although wind energy was expensive in its infancy it has now becomes more accessible and is being seen as a good way to provide electricity without polluting the environment.
Fighting Climate Change
In recent times renewable source of energy have become increasingly important as old sources of energy diminish and do more damage to the planet. If we are serious about fighting climate change then wind energy is one of the ways we can make progress on this front.
It is a totally clean energy that has no negative side effects on the environment. Wind turbines are built to last a long time and a wind turbine will typically last for 30 years once erected. When you take down a wind turbine you will find that there is no damage to its surroundings. In this way wind energy is a totally clean way of creating electricity.
Competitive Pricing
Switching to wind energy doesn't have to be expensive anymore. It was once a very costly source of electricity. This has changed and wind turbines are nowhere as expensive as they once were to construct. You can now be sure to have electricity that costs as much as conventional electricity. The competitive pricing of wind energy makes it even more attractive, besides being good for the environment it is cheap!
Is It Reliable?
Wind energy relies on wind, so how reliable is wind energy? The answer is that it is very reliable. While wind may not be constant wind energy technology is reliable and can capture up to 90% of the available wind energy. It might be surprising to know that conventional energy stations are not able to convert all the available energy into electricity and actually suffer far more energy loss than wind powered electricity facilities.
There is no longer any reason to object to wind energy. It is a safe, reliable, and cost effective way of generating electricity. Best of all it's good for the environment and when something can do the job of an old technology why resist change? Unlike nuclear power, there are no threats to the safety of communities around a wind energy facility.

Wind Power Renewable Energy *
The main renewable energy resources that you know about are sunlight (solar energy) and wind energy and perhaps to a lesser extent tidal energy systems and geothermal energy systems. All of these are in some way or another connected to the sun, which is the ultimate life giver on this planet.
The Earth-Atmosphere system is in equilibrium such that heat radiation into space is equal to incoming solar radiation, the resulting level of energy within the Earth-Atmosphere system can roughly be described as Read more
