The batteries in hybrid cars can often last more than 250,000 miles because there is a secondary battery to run the car accessories. Find out why some hybrid cars offer eight-year warranties on batteries with information from a hybrid car salesman in this free video on hybrid cars.

  2. My first hybrid was a Civic which I bought when three years old with about 30,000 miles on the clock.
In less than 6 months I had to get the IMA battery changed. Luckily that was covered under the IMA 8 yr warranty.
Possible cause was that it had been sitting on a dealers forecourt for a while. The manual states that the car needed
to be run for at least 30 minutes a month. Just before I sold it I had to replace the auxiliary battery, but that was coming
up to 8 yrs old, so not unexpected. The Civic was a lovely car. If they still sold them in the UK, I would have bought another one.

  3. Hey fixed a few of these, i wish people would know what there talking about. This Battery is amazing just like the Prius and GS450H good old fashioned NIMH Cells are the only ones built for the current and to last, they do this by Sitting the battery charge in the 40%-80% rarely higher or lower. this way the battery and cycle practically limitlessly. Also if one module fails it rarely affect other cells and only if it explodes (not that bad) does it affect its neighbours. and the bonus is Whilst you have a badly behaving cell the others simply sit back and relax. The main problem is if one cell failed drastically and goes open circuit the excess EMF from the MG1generator surges a massive voltage with nowhere to dump it and can easily blow the inverter, creating a much more expensive repair bill. Luckily the system warns but never drive her round to much after you get the "check hybrid system" she will run in a hybrid petrol only limp mode which place less of a demand on the naughty cell. But she will fail and as above you don't want that. Lexus/Toyota invest so much money in RND you should really trust this proven tech. Lithiums Suck so bad in this domain and the future after this is probably Super/Ultra Capacitors WATCH THIS SPACE.

  4. There are videos that teach you how to replace individual cells in your battery bank. $40 a cell is what I was told but it might be more. My coworker has a Prius an said its not that hard to change one out. The batter bank is a bunch of batteries made into a battery bank. Educate yourselves and just do it yourself. Make sure to pull the disconnect first, dont short the terminals. Follow instructions to the t and you will be fine doing it yourself.

  9. All the different stories on NiMh reliability all comes down to one fact: The quality control at the battery factories is seriously lacking. It is a well known dirty little fact in the battery manufacturing world that the cells come in three grades A, B and C grade (FYI nothing to do with the common cell sizes). Car makers who use NiMh and the rebuilders of packs are at the mercy of whatever comes from a supplier. We all know that all suppliers (and everyone else who sells stuff) cuts corners where they can to increase profits (as long as they dont get dinged too hard when they get caught). Now think about this: What grade of cells do you think they will buy the most of: A (the most expensive),or B (the bit less expensive), or C (the cheap crap that every one usually gets)? The one guy here that posted he had two rebuilt packs fail in a couple years is one of the C victims. Only buy a rebuilt pack from a reputable rebuilder. Avoid no-name crap from Asia (where most C cells come from.)

  10. I find it funny that the guy didn’t bother to let consumers know how expensive it is to replace the hybrid battery..and no im not talking about the battery that powers the accessory’s

  11. Hello! I'm looking into buying a 2007 Nissan Hybrid. It's only 1200 due to the fact that the battery is malfunctioning. I'm starting college in the fall and am limited on funds. Is there a cheap way that I could fix the battery myself?

  12. This video is untruthful at best. The Toyota battery failure rate is much higher than they would have you believe. It is a very highly under reported problem because these people want to reassure you that Toyota hybrid batteries are very reliable so therefore you should buy a Toyota hybrid car. The fact is the batteries are not as reliable as stated and it is an under reported issue that Toyota will not acknowledge. When your 2007 Prius battery fails after the warrantee has expired you have two choices, you can buy a battery from Toyota for $3000 plus or you can buy a reconditioned battery from an aftermarket hybrid battery reconditioner, I did the latter and the replacement battery has failed twice. So My advice to you is this, You either have to learn how to fix the unreliable battery yourself or you have to pony up the $3000 for a new one DO NOT BUY A USED PRIUS WITH EXPIRED WARRANTY – SELL PRIUS BEFORE WARRANTY RUNS OUT……..

  13. WRT …The 12 volt aux battery on hybrids. The 12 volt aux battery on hybrids normally do not have much power – and can be quickly drained when in the accessory mode with the gas engine off – it is better to keep the hybrid on and let the hybrid computer determine when the gas engine should go on. The 12 volt aux battery on the hybrid powers the main computer on the hybrid which is always on – so it takes care of the phantom drain via the computer system when the hybrid is turned off. If the hybrid is not run every few days to recharge the 12 volt aux battery – because the hybrid is sitting in storage or at an airport parking lot for a week – the phantom load of a hybrid could drain the 12volt aux battery excessively and the 12v aux battery could die. When the 12v aux battery dies , the hybrids computers will not boot up and hybrid will not start… The standard wisdom is that a 12v aux battery for a conventional car last 4 to 6 years …. it looks like my 2010 Prius 12 volt aux battery is dying after 7.5 years. 85,000 miles (with a daily commute of about 15 miles each way — monday to friday)..with an overall average mpg of 58 mpg – my traction battery appears to be working okay.

  14. The honda ima batteries are a totally different story ! So this video is somewhat misleading . You should have stated that 's how often Toyota Hybrid batteries need to be replaced !
