Homemade Wind Turbine – POC

Homemade Wind Turbine - POC

Here is a proof of concept that I did for a Wind Turbine and Solar charging system connected to a charge controller system. The solar panel is simply two small 5w panels wired in parallel to get 10w of power. The wind turbine is a custom built housing with a small PMA motor connected to 24in blades. The turbine puts out about 100 150 watts on average; however I will likely need to use some type of 2:1 gear setup with more blades to get more efficiency from the motor.

  1. wow that's great. Now if you did the same at a bigger scale for the house would you have to get permission from the city or power company?

  3. have you continued with this project by chance? i love the idea of a simple design like this … would love to have something like this for a trickle charged battery bank 🙂

  4. I suggest you use 12V LED Light bulbs instead of using 115V CFL.
12V LED are really efficient because no conversation takes place while CFL has to go through an inverter then to AC

  6. you need bigger blades to grab more wind passing by.  Like how a miner builds rocks up on the side of a sluice to collect more water.

  7. if a wind turbine produces lets say 40 volts but the batteries are 12 i know the voltage of the turbine will go down to 12 but is those 28 volts lost and therefore less power is produced great job by the way

  8. I think ur system is efin awesome, wish I had the time to build one of my own, and enjoy the use. I can really c that going somewhere,

  10. instead of the dump load. You can buy a grid tie inverter which feeds your excess power directly into the grid of your house through a regular ac outlet.

  11. if i use a battery and my turbine puts out 100 watts does that mean if i use more than 100 watts on the inverter it wont work
