In clash with Trump, U S report says humans cause climate change

The rapid pace of global climate change is almost certainly driven by human activity, like burning fossil fuels, according to a U.S. government report that contradicts assertions by President Donald Trump and members of his administration. Jonah Green reports.
A new government report finds that global warming is highly likely caused by human activity, specifically the emission of greenhouse gasses. And the change in global temperatures will depend heavily on how much carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere.

The report out Friday is seemingly at odds with the White House’s stance on the global threat.

The report, released Friday, is required by Congress every four years and comes from a group of more than 50 U.S. government scientists.

The findings at odds with the White House, as the occupant of Oval Office has repeatedly called climate change a “hoax”

But as the report makes clear, this is no hoax.

“For the warming over the last century, there is no convincing alternative explanation supported by the extent of the observational evidence.”

The report, whose authors include scientists at agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency, also at odds with the head of the EPA, who himself has expressed skepticism at the prevailing science behind climate change.

Officials at the EPA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The report says that average sea levels are expected to rise “at least several inches in the next 15 years” due to rising temperatures and that “a rise of as much as 8 feet by 2100 cannot be ruled out”#
