A grid-tied solar electric system generates electricity for your home or business and also routes the excess power (generated during daylight hours) back into the utility grid for use after sunset or for compensation from the utility company.

An off-grid or standalone photovoltaic system is when your solar photovoltaic system is not connected to the utility grid.

There are two major categories of solar panels and several sub categories. The primary breakdown is based on how the suns energy is captured and converted.

Photovoltaic technology directly converts sunlight into electricity.
Solar thermal technology harnesses the sun’s heat energy.

There is also another, more important, way to capture and convert solar energy and our lives are dependent on it.

Photosynthesis is the system that our gardens and food forests use to convert sunlight into foods we eat.

  2. Dear Mr Henry,I wish you the best and I would like you to give me an advice by how the person can take a job entry or internship in any renewable energy company specially in solar energy to start work in this field.I want to know how to take the right step to work in this career.I have short experience on the off-grid systems .
all I want from you to tell me how to join your installation lessons and give me all the details to join it .
    thanks

  3. I am still not clear on this.If the grid goes down ,will you still have power for your use till the main power grid come back online ? Or will you have to add the battery back ups to do that.We have lost power here for as much as 7 days .

  4. You answered a lot of my questions. I'm grateful. However, I would like to know what is the average price (parts and installation) of a 7.28 Kwp system in 2016 and how much kwh does it produce in a month in Brownsville, Texas (we have lots of sun)?

  5. Just a minor addition, polycrystalline silicone is when they just melt and cast it, monocrystalline is when they "grow" a single round crystal sort of like candle making. That is why you mostly see them come with rounded corners and why they are more expensive as it takes more time and work.

  7. VERY NICELY EXPLAINED *****we do appreciate this ! we live in  a strata property system , when we bought but we need to put all the heads together to make solar system as an investment. California is a sunny state and we need to educate folks to take the benefit.,thanks for the nice video
