  4. Money is a major barrier to people being ankle to go buy land and grow their food. I think urban farming is good but not without its problems. For one, the neighborhood will pick u clean with no respect. Plus, just about every housing development uses Monsanto round up on the lawns, which runs off into the canals and goes all over. It's a very difficult challenge

  8. You seem to have no clue about plant science and about nutricinal values in plants if you want the most healthy food eat greenhouse produced food in hydroponics wich have genarally higher nutricinal values than organic/soil grown fruits and vedgies

  9. I agree with the main point of this video about the issues surrounding the organic label, but I don't entirely agree with you on the GMO front. The specific act of genetically modifying food isn't bad, and can even improve the food by removing the need for pesticide, or adding nutrients like in the case of Golden Rice (http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2013/03/07/173611461/in-a-grain-of-golden-rice-a-world-of-controversy-over-gmo-foods but also there's a lot of info just on google). HOWEVER: the sketchy part of genetic modification comes when you factor in corporations, which will modify crops so that farmers have to buy new batches of seed every season from them, and other things like that to drive up their profits. Like most technologies, genetic modification can solve current problems, but when it's in the wrong hands it gets exploited. (The same goes for medicine, but with pharmaceutical companies getting in the way of progress–but that's an entire other thing with its own nuance).

tl;dr: GMOs can be helpful but fuck Monsanto.

  10. omega-6 fatty acids are good and ESSENTIAL for our bodies as long as we don't consume TOO MUCH of them!!!

"Your body needs fatty acids and can make all but two of them, which is why they are called essential fatty acids. Linoleic and linolenic acids are derived from foods containing omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, respectively, which serve different functions in the body."

"Omega-6 fatty acids are essential fatty acids. They are necessary for human health, but the body cannot make them. You have to get them through food. Along with omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function, and normal growth and development. As a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), omega-6s help stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and maintain the reproductive system."

"There are several different types of omega-6 fatty acids, and not all promote inflammation. Most omega-6 fatty acids in the diet come from vegetable oils, such as linoleic acid (LA), not to be confused with alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is an omega-3 fatty acid. Linoleic acid is converted to gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) in the body. It can then break down further to arachidonic acid (AA). GLA is found in several plant-based oils, including evening primrose oil (EPO), borage oil, and black currant seed oil.

    GLA may actually reduce inflammation"

  11. it always depends on the country you live in
some countries have stricter rules when it comes to certifying food as organic and some don't

  13. This is why I live in the country and my family grows a lot of our own food. We also raise goats and chickens. It is a lifestyle I can't imagine walking away from. Don't get me started on how much I love living in the country. There is no reason for me to be super close to the city. In fact, it makes me sick to see the devestation with nothing but ugly buildings and noise. Oh wait….I'm off on a tangent. Yes, growing your own food is the best thing you can do to be proactive about things. And no, you do NOT need acreage to begin growing your food. You need some dirt, some pots, some seeds, water, and sunshine (or a grow lamp). You can even do that in the city.
