The sun’s rays can hit some roads for up to 90 percent of the daylight hours, so companies in Europe and the U.S. are experimenting with building solar panels along or above roads. But are such projects worth the cost? In France one company is hoping to distinguish itself—and reduce costs—with solar panels that are laid directly on the pavement.

amazing
The comments here are cancer. Science and innovation is always expensive at the beginning…
Questioned by AFP about the issue of cost of production, Jean-Charles Broizat, project manager at Colas, responded "have the ambition, by 2020, to join the costs of conventional solar panels"
translation :
Interrogé par l'AFP sur la question du coût de production, Jean-Charles Broizat, directeur du projet chez Colas, a répondu «avoir l'ambition, d'ici 2020, de rejoindre les coûts des panneaux photovoltaïques classiques»
The anglo poeple is not able to imagine that the cost of this solar road will lower with the improvement and number of road equiped ! are you seo jealous of this road ? they begin n to build it in usa in a city . Group Colas think the cost will be the same as roof solar panel in some years.
Street Advertisement Wars Everyday!!
as you walk by the hacked panels to see the floor customized with pleasant and nice propaganda from the neighborhood;
the first is a proven scam
just put panels on the side and self driving cars will detect deer, hazards, etc. parking lots and sport courts are the only thing that would benefit from the 50 trillion dollar expense.
I did not see any testing using dirt, oil and gas every road will have a thin film of this so the streets will need to be washed
I think this would be a waste of time with our current solar technology. It wouldn't make enough of a difference to be worth the trouble. The cost of the upkeep would be ungodly. Maybe if every major roadway in America were solar, then it could make a difference? Or if it powered the cars as they drove over it? I don't know… This just seems too far fetched.
I need a thumbs up for this one. why build a normal conctete/tarmac road like usual that costs billions to the taxpayer, when you can build a road can give back energy to powerplants, cities, households reducing price of energy to the consumer, saving them billions while giving the national highways an upgrade to boot, killing two birds with one stone while saving the taxpayer money. Its a brillent idea + plus having the bonus of easy repair replacing panels eliminate road construction/road blocks (i.e. Waiting in traffic ), also boosting high tec companys hiring millions to the labour fore, while saving the planet though eco technology for generations to come.
total scam and a taxpayer ripoff.
these jerks should be thrown in jail
This is such a waist of money! Thunderfoot already disproved this way of utilizing solar pannels when he destroyed Solar Roadways. You get at max 30% of what a panel that can track the sun would produce in electricity per day from placing a panle horizontaly. I cant believe governments are paying for this crap vs giving grant money to people whom strive to improve the effecientcy of solar panels.
Answer: yes, they could be, and it would be incredibly stupid to do so. They would be astronomically expensive and they would require far more energy to create than they would ever generate before they wore out and needed to be replaced.
I can't wait for them to do a feature on flower pot heaters next!
Hey! HEY! It's Solar Freakin Roadways.
Just watch Thunderf00t videos about solar roadways. He explains all the problems and why this idea is bullshit.
How about we make Solar freaking wheels!!
Solar freaking roadways!
Let's just save these solar panels so we can put them onf Trump's fucking wall and pay off some debts.
What a joke! Any who is going scrap the gum and all the other crap off the panel?
I don't get it. How does solar energy produce electrical energy? What are the energy transformations that occur? Anyone know?
cool
