Wastewater treatment facilities in the US are at present using between 5 and 6 percent of the energy resources available in that country. It would indeed be a welcome improvement if America could lead the way in providing alternative energy technologies that would help these wastewater treatment facilities from relying only on the use of conventionally produced electricity by. No doubt, complete independence from the grid is not achievable but at least by using alternative energy technology the dependence on oil and coal would be greatly reduced.

Use Of Bacteria

In fact, it has become known to scientists working in Penn State that with proper alternative energy technology it would even be possible to produce electricity by making use of bacteria. The latest findings of new alternative energy technology show that it could be possible to make bacteria feed on sludge and in the process produce electricity.

This would indeed prove to be a cheap and useful means of saving from using and relying on conventionally produced electricity and by making full use of such alternative energy technologies it would then even be possible to produce enough energy to power up waste treatment plants all across the country without polluting the environment or depleting the already limited fossil fuel resources.

In fact, newer alternative energy technologies are being used to discover new means of producing bio-diesel as well as methanol and even ethanol. It makes good sense for businesses to put their money and resources into discovering new alternative energy technologies so that the future will have been secured and in return they can also expect to earn considerable profits by becoming leaders in the use of alternative energy resources.

The use of alternative energy technology has helped in propelling the production of bio-mass as well as bio-diesel. In fact, biotechnology is very important and by putting alternative energy technology to good use it is expected that it will soon become possible to transfer bio-mass into the production of usable fuels of which ethanol and methane are prime examples. In fact, ethanol and methane are viable products and are already being used in a small way as alternatives to fuels that power up vehicles.

Solar energy is really the energy that is being produced naturally by the sun and it is, at present, only being used on a small scale. However, when alternative energy technology become adapted to making production of energy from the sun cheap enough and affordable enough for everyone, there is every reason to believe that the sun will do more than provide us heat and light – it can end up becoming our prime alternative energy resource.

Rising costs of traditional fuels and the threat of global warming is making people all across the world become very nervous about their future. The need to go green has not as yet convinced the powers that be to understand that there is a pressing need to switch from using traditional energy resources to using alternative energy resources. However, wind power is certainly a viable alternative energy solution and it can rightly boast of having many positives when it comes to generating electricity.

Not A New Concept

Of course, wind cannot really be called a new alternative energy solution because it has been harnessed from ages ago and from Ancient Persia till the present windmills have been used to good effect. No doubt, early use of windmills was mainly to grind grain; however, now in countries such as Holland, modern windmills are doing a lot more and are in fact, primarily being used to generate electricity.

Kinetic energy is the basis on which wind power can be harnessed to generate electricity. In fact, wind can make an ideal alternative energy solution because it only requires that spinner blades catch the wind and then this captured wind can be used to make generator produce electricity. The entire process is simple and natural though the amount of energy produced is truly enormous.

The good news for proponents of wind as an alternative energy solution is that by harnessing the entire wind in our world there would be enough electricity available to power up the globe ten times over. The only trouble lies in being able to properly harness wind. Nevertheless, there are many good reasons why wind power should become a major alternative energy solution for the world. For one, it does not pollute the environment and no greenhouse gases are emitted. Secondly, it is a renewable resource and will continue to provide a resource as long as the sun shines which it is expected will do so for another 4 billion years.

Wind is also the best alternative energy solution because it is available in all corners of the world and so there is no need for any country in the world to rely on foreign suppliers. In addition, wind power, when used, will help to generate many more jobs and far more than what coal and oil industry provides.

The bottom line is that with the proper use and development of alternative energy technology man can hope to solve their energy problems for long into the future. Wind power is a good example of how an alternate source of energy can be put to use to keep the world from becoming totally dependent on diminishing conventional energy resources.

The continuously dwindling amount of oil reserves today is making big news all over the world and this issue is leading to much concern, especially at a time when the population of the world is demanding more energy to sustain its lifestyle. Oil is the predominant energy resource though it is also the most expensive one and is currently in short supply. This means that it is necessary to look for suitable alternative energy resources which will help mankind overcome its current precarious energy predicament.

Coal Is Found In Abundance In The USA

Coal is a good example of alternative energy resource and it is found in abundance in the US and these reserves can rival the oil resources found in Saudi Arabia. Coal is useful for the generation of electricity and it can also be used to create "synfuels", which if properly used can prove to be an excellent alternative energy resource.

Heavy oil is another form of alternative energy resource and it can prove to be very effective. Natural gas too is a good alternative energy resource and it is currently being used in the production of electricity as well as for heating purposes and is widely available. Natural gas burns cleanly and it can also be used to power up automobiles as well.

Nuclear power is also a useful alternative energy resource and it can in fact lead to large scale generation of electricity though disposing of its waste is a major problem. Alcohol as well as biofuels is also good alternative energy resources and they have the advantage of being produced from plants such as corn and hemp.

Hydrogen is perhaps the most abundant alternative energy resource and it can also be produced from a number of compounds and it can also be stored though it does also require great amount of money to properly utilize this alternative energy resource. Solar power is a largely untapped alternative energy resource which can, when used on a large scale, generate enough electricity to meet the entire energy needs of our planet.

Wind too is a wonderful alternative energy resource and it can be harnessed to produce significant amount of electricity. There are several good reasons why wind is being considered as the best alternative energy solution for the future. With more emphasis being given to coming up with viable solutions in regard to tapping these alternative resources, it will not be long before a radical change takes place in the type of energy resources we will be using to meet future energy requirements.

In regard to using alternative forms of energy solar energy is one such form that immediately comes to mind. The sun is all powerful and perhaps the single most impressive source of energy that is known to man today as it has enough power to sustain us for many long years to come and it is also available free of cost and is highly efficient as well. It would be quite realistic to hope that someday this alternative form of energy will replace conventional energy sources and become the mainstay of all our future energy requirements.

High Latitudes

The only trouble with using solar energy is that not every part of the world is suitable for tapping this alternative form of energy, especially not in places that are located at high latitudes where the amount of sunlight is simply not enough to be of any help as far as an alternative form of energy is concerned.

Wind energy is another alternative form of energy that enjoys the advantage of being very efficient in generating electricity. In high altitude places as well as along coast lines this alternative forms of energy can prove to be very effective and it can even provide electricity to meet about twenty percent of all our electricity requirements. This is a clean source of energy and it is also not dangerous for the flora and fauna and it is also renewable.

Hydroelectricity is another one of the better alternative forms of energy and it can be sourced from a dam, though constructing dams is a problem because it is necessary to build them only where large amounts of water can be stored easily.

Tidal energy is yet another alternative form of energy and this form of energy works very similarly to hydroelectric energy though the scale on which it works is considerably smaller. Yet another one of the available alternative forms of energy is biomass that can be used in the production of alcohol which can prove to be an alternate source to power up automobiles.

Fusion, nuclear as well as geothermal power is other examples of alternative forms of energy though these alternatives suffer from a major drawback which is that they can endanger the environment.

The current energy crisis is causing a lot of worry for everyone – is it scientists or everyday people. It is therefore about time that we started to develop means with which to fully utilize alternative energy resources such as water and wind as well as water. Though alternative forms of energy do have certain disadvantages they are nevertheless the best bet when it comes to securing our long term energy needs.

There is no getting around the fact that not only are global financial markets cracking but there is an additional worry in the form of the present day energy crisis. It is about time that we switched to tapping an alternative energy source to ensure that we do not run out of conventional sources of energy such as fossil fuel and coal. In fact, experts tell us that within the next thirty to forty years we will have exhausted all of our oil reserves.

New Technologies

The search for an alternative energy source is however now gathering more steam with governments, scientists as well as engineers searching for as well as perfecting technologies that can help us tap renewable alternative energy sources for large scale use.

Alternative energy sources that involve renewable energy sources will help us avoid a major catastrophe and among possible alternatives we need to look at solar energy, hydro power as well as wind energy as the way ahead.

Solar energy is an ideal alternative energy source as it is found in abundance and is clean and does not pollute the environment and best of all, is free. In fact, even an hour of solar energy is enough to provide power for the entire planet for an entire three hundred and sixty-five days. At present, this alternative energy source is not being utilized enough though it can prove to be just the right solution to secure our long term energy needs.

Another alternative energy source is the one we call hydroelectricity and which is effective as well as clean and also renewable and if conditions are perfect, then hydroelectricity can provide mankind with enough electricity to take care of our immediate needs. The only downside to tapping this alternative energy source is that it is necessary to locate dams close to places that allow for major flooding.

Wind power is the third major alternative energy source that can, when properly harnessed, provide deliverance from the present energy crisis that is bedeviling us in all parts of the world.

At present, we need to seriously consider making proper choices regarding large scale use of alternative energy sources; otherwise, we will face a calamity of immense magnitude that can threaten the very existence of mankind. No doubt, even the alternate forms of energy such as solar, wind and water are not without their drawbacks; however, given the dangerous energy situation that we are now facing, we have little option but to start using these alternative energy sources in order to ensure our survival and to also preserve the environment that too is being polluted and endangered.

It is time for people, their leaders and businesses to join hands to choose the right alternate sources with which to meet our energy needs – both now, and in the future.

Energy that does not reduce the natural resources of our planet and which also does not lead to damaging our environment is often referred to as alternative energy. Typical examples of this form of energy include the sun, wind and also water. Another example of alternative energy is bio-fuels that are now-a-days becoming more popular because of the fact that they do not harm the environment and can be renewed very easily.

Bio-fuels Are Easily Obtainable

Bio-fuels are easily obtainable and are derived from plants that contain plenty of sugar and this form of alternative energy can be used for heating a home and also for powering automobiles. Today, homes and offices all across the world are consuming energy in very high quantities and at a rate that is giving reason to be alarmed. The cost of conventional energy too is raising making for a very dangerous situation for everyone living on this planet.

Without changing track soon we will only be heading towards disaster. However, with present day available technology we are now assured, in small measure, of being able to use alternative energy that will help in affecting considerable savings in terms of money and resources used. Windmills are an excellent example of how alternative energy can be derived from harnessing the natural and renewal source of energy – the wind. From being used to grind grain, windmills today have progressed and changed radically enough to now supply enough energy that can help in doing more than grinding grain.

Solar energy is another good example of an alternative energy and one that can also help produce considerable amount of electricity. It only requires installing solar panels on the roof of your home to collect the sun's heat and light and then converting the trapped sunlight into electricity is just a simple matter.

Hydropower is another good example of alternative energy and this kind of power is derived by tapping the power contained in water currents and this trapped power can then be used to operate huge generators. Biogas is another example of alternative energy and it is a cost saving energy solution that will prove its worth during the winter months when you need to heat up your home without paying too much for doing so.

The current energy crisis should act as a spur for mankind to tap into alternative energy sources such as solar energy and wind and hydro-energy as too biodiesel that together and individually will help solve many of the problems affecting people on this planet. These forms of alternative energy, when used on a large scale, can help lead us out of the present energy morass that we find us bogged down in.

The rising costs of energy should make you start to seriously consider ways to reduce your monthly bills and for this you will need to learn how to improve insulation, use light bulbs that consume less electricity and also remember to switch off all appliances when they are not in use. Fortunately, there are many things that you can do which can help to significantly lower your energy consumption and so, will help you pay less each month by way of your electricity bills.

A Free Source

The sun is a free source of energy and to ensure that you tap it to the maximum you must first of all start off by ensuring that your windows are kept spotlessly clean because a dirty window can cut by half the amount of heat and light that enters your home as a result of direct sunlight. This is especially felt during the spring and autumn seasons when the need to heat up your home is greatest and with enough sunlight you will also be able to keep the lights turned off for longer. The result would be saving of as many as hundred dollars per month on your electricity bills.

Feeling warm is not achieved solely by ensuring that the temperature is high; rather it also depends on the humidity which in turn means that relatively low humidity will make you feel cool while high humidity can help in lowering the thermostat and so help you save more than ten percent on your energy bills. What's more, high humidity also benefits your health as it helps in reducing dust and is especially useful for those who have an asthma condition.

You can also lower energy cost by mounting the heater or radiator on the walls. At the same time it would wrong to allow curtains to be placed in front of the radiator or heater, which often occurs when these devices are placed below a window. Doing so can lead to dissipation of as many as fifty percent of heat. The way around this problem is to shorten the length of the curtains.

Finally, you can reduce energy bills by making use of reversible A/Cs that can both cool as well as heat a room. Such a solution can help reduce the consumption of energy by as high as an estimated seventy-five percent.

Alternative energy is that energy that does not in any way reduce the natural resources of the earth and which also does not do any unnecessary damage to the world environment. Solar, water and wind are typical examples of this form of energy and they are also considered as renewable sources of energy because these sources will constantly be replenished.

Controversy Over Nuclear Power as a Renewable Energy Source

In 1983, physicist Bernard Cohen proposed that uranium is effectively inexhaustible, and could therefore be considered a renewable source of energy. He claimed that fast breeder reactors, fueled by uranium extracted from seawater, could supply energy at least as long as the sun's expected remaining lifespan of five billion years. Nuclear energy has also been referred to as "renewable" by the politicians George W. Bush, Charlie Crist, and David Sainsbury.

Inclusion under the "renewable energy" classification could render nuclear power projects eligible for Read more
