  1. You failed to mention up front costs. The tankless costs about 3 times as much using my personal experience. 
    During your comparison, you said the tank heater only provides a small section of actual hot water. You failed to mention the tank will turn on its burner way before the water will run cool.  You also failed to mention that hot water from a tank will be diluted with cold water while filling a tub. This will increase a tank's capacity. 
    During your tankless comparison, you said it will never run out of hot water, it will just keep making hot water as long as it is running.  Try doing that when you exceed the tankless' capacity. Draw too much water, especially during winter when the incoming water is below 40 degrees as it is here in New England and your water will become tepid at best. 
    Consumers Union, the publishers of Consumer Reports magazine does not recommend tankless water heaters just from their very expensive up front costs alone.
    All in all, this is a very biased comparison.
