How does a solar cell work?

We have discuss here the very basic working principle of a solar cell

In this video, Mr. Adams explains how PN Junctions are used in silicon photovoltaic devices (solar cells) to create electricity. He attempts to explain a very difficult process in simple, easy to understand terms so that his high school students can better understand photovoltaics.

Also, Mr. Adams says silicone, but he really means silicon. They are two different substances. It is just a slip of the tongue.

  1. Is there a mistake in this video? At 3:00 it mentions electrons going to the n-type due to the interaction with positive ions. However, n-type is the negative (excess electrons) part.
