I did that experiment 50 years ago. It works, but extremely low output. The actual photo reaction is with the copper oxide layer on the foil, created when the strip was heated. A salt solution is the electrolyte that provides the electrical connection to the pain copper strip.
IT'S A SOLAR/BRINE GENERATOR,AND THE TECH IS WELL OVER 70 YEARS OLD. THE THEORY WAS THOUGHT UP IN THE LATE 1800's EVEN 60's SCHOOL KIDS STUDIED THIS TECH. THE OUTPUT VERSUS COST FOR FOR MATERIALS IS TOO COST INEFFICIENT.
