Iceland is leading the way when it comes to using magma as an alternative source of fuel. In fact, they even came up with the first ever geothermal plant after accidentally drilling into magma back in 2009! Trace explains how this new power plant is changing how we heat our homes in hopes for a more sustainable future.

How Geothermal Energy Works
http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/energy/geothermal-energy.htm
“We depend on our cars to take us to work and get our children to school. We rely on our home heating systems to keep us warm in the winter. We take it for granted that we could easily switch on our computer, vacuum cleaner or oven.”

World’s First “Magma-Enhanced Geothermal System Created in Iceland
http://scienceblog.com/69817/worlds-first-magma-enhanced-geothermal-system-created-in-iceland/
“In 2009, a borehole drilled at Krafla, northeast Iceland, as part of the Icelandic Deep Drilling Project (IDDP), unexpectedly penetrated into magma (molten rock) at only 2100 meters depth, with a temperature of 900-1000 C.”

But Iceland get far MORE enegy from water, not from geothermal :
This video was disappointing and very uninformative. Sorry but Tracey you were simply just really bad and completely stupid acting.
Heat the streets during winter! I'm all for the risks of drilling for this type of energy
gay
I don't understand any of this
Ok so ik that this is not related to this, but can there be Fe, Al or other natural resources in great quantities on mars ?
Initially geothermal may be expensive but 2nd, 3rd 4th generation geothermal would blow every other source away.. 90%+ of the cost would only be required for the initial plant, if all our energy infrastructure built 100yr ago was geothermal we would probably be paying 1/10 our current power bills.
Geothermal and hydropower are the best forms of renewable energy.

YAY GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
Ct scan is the best option foloks, great topic we surely need much cleaner energy sources i hope by the end of our lives we have a total energy revolution.
Yess of course I would like geothermal energy here in NYC.
As humans build more and more geothermal wells to extract heat from core magma, the cooling of the core will accelerate and we will need to use the underground tunnels of the geothermal extractors to build lots of underground caves where we'll be protected from cosmic radiation that will no longer be shielded once the core has solidified and the planet's magnetic field is gone.
Probably by that time, we will have had plenty of practice living underground on Mars since that planet's core has already solidified. It might be a good idea in the mean time to keep Earth's core well-insulated to insure it stays liquid at least until we are prepared to all migrate underground or to outer space.
nuclear breeder reactors
You cannot "create" energy. Please. You are a sort-of-scientific thing. Get your stuff together, that's very basic.
I wish that more and more places would use renewable energy such as geothermal energy. I think it would likely be a lot better for our environment. However, I think it would take a very long time before we were completely reliant on renewable energy. I could be wrong though. I am often wrong on many things.
But does it create MONEY!
Wave energy
Title needs to be changed. This is the discovery channel, isn't it? Professionals, aren't you?

geothermal energy assosiation
It was really helpful!!
Great video!
